How the deck goes together
1. Prepare the ground
Clear and level the ground, then lay a weed membrane with some gravel.
2. Build the frame
Build a level frame of joists on a firm base or paving, spacing the joists at your chosen centres with a gap underneath for air, and check it's level and square.
3. Fix the boards
Screw the deck boards down across the joists with about a 5mm gap between each one, two screws into every joist, and stagger the board ends.
4. Treat it
Give the deck a coat of decking oil or treatment once it's down, and do the cut ends as you go.
Quantities are a guide based on your deck size and include your chosen wastage. Framing timber assumes a simple rectangular frame; a raised or complex deck may need extra bearers and posts. Pop into any DBM branch and we'll help you finalise the order.
